The equalization package was announced by the Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi for Balochistan under which the federal government would share half the development cost in every district of the province including establishment of hospitals, education and other facilities as well. It is hoped that equalization package will ensure the provision of equal facilities in all districts of the province to achieve the target of sustainable development goals.

It is worth mentioning here that apart from capital city of the province, all other areas massively lack basic civil facilities including heath, education and clean drinking water. Poverty rate in the province is much higher than other provinces, almost three-quarter of the population is living below the poverty line.

However, it has been estimated that China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) would be a game changer and would revolutionize the lives of Baloch people, but its results yet to be seen in improving lives of local people.

According to federal ministers, hundreds of billions of rupees have been spent in the province in last few years, but sadly effect is invisible and nothing is seen practically. Still socio-economic indicators present a dismal condition. Thus, there is dire need to improve the lives of local people who have been suffering a lot.

I hope that the equalization package would help in uplifting socio-economic status of the biggest province of the country.
