The Baloch Writer

Over the years, Baloch literature has formed from oral to written which is now shifting to digitalization. But the indigenous complaint, particularly in the contemporary situations and era, has always been the content – what literature is being produced and what they can contribute for larger societal interests. They feel the modern literati are far away from their national duties, while some other defend them saying literature is beyond boundaries and nations. Among the siders of the first group, one is Nisar Ahmed, a Baloch novelist and short story writer, who believes that the actual duty of a Baloch literary person is to get attached to their roots and write for their people at large. Unfortunately, an undesired accident, two years ago, left him hospitalized with one of his friends meeting his maker.

Author of four books, including Tunn, Be Zubane Kishk, Chol and Joon (compiled in Waab, dream), Nisar Ahmed posted on Facebook on December 29, 2025: “I want to sell my unpublished novels and short stories to continue my treatment. Contact me if anyone wants to [buy them]. I will keep it a secret thereafter regarding the materials.”

In contrary to the indigenous people’s concerns, Nisar’s work revolves around the Baloch society, with special emphasis on ground-rooted national issues. He is also one among the critics of the other literati who excuse themselves from writing on Baloch issues. All this duration, he was not only criticizing others, but was himself engaged in writing on Baloch national tensions and their favorable solutions – through novels, short stories and articles. Anyone, who would want to know of writings on Baloch national concerns, Nisar Ahmed would come first in their minds.

When it became public that Nisar’s health was deteriorating and he wanted to sell his work only to receive remuneration for his treatment, people continued to offer monetary support instead of taking back his work which, they believe, purely belonged to him. Or instead, they may lose their worth if published with another individual’s name. Because Nisar has made a name for himself and his work also propagate the ideology he owns.

When he was contacted for any sort of support, he excused saying he could not take money as charity, but wanted to sell his work to receive the very same. It is not that he does not want money, but his conscience is challenging him. But the people are of the view that Nisar is not an individual but a national asset. He does not belong to himself. The day he made his way clear to serve his people, he lost the decisions of his life and all belong to the nation now. When it is their time, they want to pay everything back to Nisar, considering him a national voice and figure.

Apart from everything, Nisar Ahmed is a national asset who needs timely and accurate treatment. Saving him is nothing but a national contribution. He has always been national in himself, therefore, it becomes a collective national duty to save him: at any cost and by any means, Nisar Ahmed should be saved.
