Out of school children in Balochistan

Balochistan, the richest province of Pakistan in terms of natural resources, grants benefits to Pakistan in every aspect, yet its own residents are deprived of every stuff. They are encountering each circumstance with great concerns; the biggest of all is educational prosperity. As more than half of Balochistan’s population are distressed – not receiving their fundamental rights.

Sadly, 72% children in Balochistan are out of school and are paid no necessary consciousness. Consequently, Balochistan’s inhabitants are degraded under the light of education.

According to a research, Pakistan has the second-highest number of out-of-school children in the world with an estimation of 22.8 million children. More than 1.9 million children including 927,542 males and 984,128 females are reported to be out of schools in Balochistan.

The major reason behind out-of-school children is neglected areas where people are living in the majority. But yet they have no schools at all in this 21st century. Whereas, if a town subsists a school, it has no essential facilities as the infrastructures are demolished, equipments for studying are least available and teachers are few in number, albeit registered for particular areas. Many ghost teachers run away from their responsibilities and duties.

On the other side, the long distances from schools to homes are highly noticeable which seems as one of the main reasons behind the outnumbering children who are quitting education in the province.

According to Alif Ailaan’s report [2017], a primary school approximately appears after every 30 kilometers in Balochistan; a middle school after every 260 kilometers; and a high school after every 360 kilometers.

However, every leader, with unfulfilled promises, comes to end up with no measures against this massive issue. The allocated funds are not utilized to build up educational institutions to renovate the smashed and fragmented schools to facilitate them in bone-fide means.

It is assumed that 13,000 initial, middle and secondary schools are serviceable with 60,000 teaching staff. But unfortunately, 3,000 schools are not being operated in a satisfying manner and nearly all come up in a state of terminating.

Moreover, private schools look more facilitated in comparison with government schools in Balochistan and are functioning more properly. But poor individuals still cannot afford them and hence never think of admitting their children to private schools. In contrary, the innocent children are working from dawn to dusk struggling to be the helping hands of their families which crashed their desires and dreams for acquiring an education.

Labouring limits them under the boundaries of poverty. In a similar manner, it is estimated that 12.5 million children are involved in child labour in Pakistan and half of them [in percentage] are reported to be from Balochistan. Poor children, who seem aback in the field of education and get no chance with hardships in life, fall entirely under the umbrella of government to provide them with the best education.

Thus, the development and prosperity of any state is based on educating their individuals. The authorities are responsible and should be in front line to this noticeable and integral part. First and foremost, the government should bring changes in educational sector like ensuring quality education by providing all the facilities – teachers and stuff.

If the concerned authorities neglect such perspectives, how come the state move towards prosperity? All eyes are set towards the authorities concerned as to how they go with educational policies in the province.
