HEC must ensure internet access before starting online classes: BSAC

Respected HEC Chairman,

Baloch Students Action Committee really appreciates and respects your initiative of virtual learning and continuity of online academic classes which were disturbed amid COVID-19 19 pandemic. However, it is to be noted that many areas lack internet facilities, such as Balochistan where the network signals or internet access seems to be a dream, many students hailing from Gilgit and khyberpakhtunkwa are going through the same.

Keeping in view the ground realities, online classes need a strong access of internet. Unfortunately, most of Baloch and other Students, who hail from rural areas of Pakistan, have no such internet facility due to which they are not able to take online classes.

Recently, Gallup Pakistan has conducted a National Opinion Poll on Support and Opposition of Online Classes. Students from 55 universities, including all provinces as well as Gilgit Baltistan and AJK, took part in the poll. The significant point is that students from the top public and private sector universities of Pakistan also participated in this poll to express the ongoing virtual learning scenario. The poll results state that 84 percent of the students did not like attending classes online. Over seven out of 10 students did not support the continuation of online education. Among them, students from Balochistan and GB expressed the most dislike for online classes. This ruckus is obviously due to unavailability of the internet in most of the areas of Balochistan, GB and Hunza.

Taking online classes and conducting online exams is a whole injustice and discrimination for these students. So Baloch Students Action Committee totally rejects online classes and we will accept it when Students from all over Pakistan get access to Online Classes.
