Asma Jahangir, former president of the Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan and a human rights activist, passed at the age of 66 on Sunday in Lahore.

According to reports, she was shifted to hospital after sudden health issues on Sunday, but could not survive.

She was born in 1952 in Lahore. Asma was the first woman to be elected as the president of Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan.

The lawyer was known as an activist and a critic of security institutions.

She also played a leading role in the restoration of Judiciary during Musharraf’s regime.
